Make a House a Home from Scratch 10

Its been a month or so now since I have last posted about our renovation. Why? Well, because we haven't been working on the house at all!  Isnt that awful?  We just kind of hit a road bump.  But we are starting to get back on track now.

The ceiling had a crack running across the entire thing and was not fixable.  So, we were left with the decision to either cover the ceiling with a thin layer of drywall or rip the whole thing out and do it the right way!  Either way we were going to pretty much need the same supplies.  So last week we headed to our local hardware and went ahead and made some purchases.  Now all we needed was some more man power.......so I thought!!

Today, I came home from work to this:

My husband and sons gutted the ceiling!  Thank goodness they had most of the mess cleaned up before I got home!

There is still a lot of work to be done before we can start putting up new materials but aleast we are on a roll and back in the groove!

If you would like to see all the progress we have made on this room and the rest of the house, check out the first nine posts in the Make a House a Home from Scratch series!

WIP Wednesday 5

Im beginning to realize that I have a big problem when it comes to finishing my projects.  Once again, this week instead of finishing previous things, I have started another new one!

This whole year has been one crazy hot mess with the move and renovation that I have seemed to have missed out on a lot of things.  Like for instance, one of my best friends baby shower.....I know...what a crumby friend I am right?  This weeks project should have been started months ago, and since I missed the shower, it just completely slipped passed me.  So every extra minute I have had, I have been working on this:

Yes, another baby blanket!  Only thing is this one has to be finished before the end of the month!!
She is due August 30th!

The colors are a perfect match to the crib set that she has already purchased.  Chevron seems to be very popular right so I chose to go with that pattern (and its simple so it works up quick).

Once the crochet work is all finished, I want to add a fabric J on the bottom corner.  This I have never done before!  I have seen pictures of items that are sewn and crocheted, and tried looking into some tutorials, but Im still a little uneasy about it.

I don't want to mess up the crochet because it is going so well.  I guess Im going to have to work up a swatch and try it out.  Fingers crossed that I can do this!!!!

The Sunday Social 2

Sunday Social

I haven't been posting much over the last couple of weeks.  I haven't had much going on really.  Been trying to work on several crochet projects, and hoping to get them finished soon.....because I always have more to start, lol.  I don't want to stay away too long, so I decided to take part in the Sunday Social again hosted by Ashley Lately.  Here are the questions of week:

1. What is something you've always wanted to do but are afraid of?
To be honest, I have pretty much always did what I wanted.  I have never really let fear get the best of me.   I do have a fear of flying, but I have never really wanted to do it.

2. Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I would like to be free from having to by fresh produce at the store...completely!

3. What are you looking forward to before the end of 2013?
School starting (for my kids), lol, which is next week!!!  Completing all my WIPs!

4. What are your hopes for your blog?
When I started my blog....not very long ago....I did so for personal use.  Just a place for me to sort of keep track of the projects that I had going on.  I love to hear peoples feedback on my posts, and enjoy following new people.  I have been following others for years, and it was just a way for me to give back a little.

5. Do you always see yourself living in your current town/city?
We just moved to our current city in January of this year.  I love it here, and so do my kids.  They have met so many new friends, they enjoy school so much better here, and it is just all around a great place for my family.  In my head, I have already planned out the rest of my life here.....but the goal is to stay atleast till all three kids have graduated high school.

6. What is your morning routine?

My routine will change once school starts back up, but it is currently this:
Up at 5:30
Brush my teeth.
Take the dog out.
Do the 30-Day Challenge (exercise) routine for the day.
Shower.
Makeup, blow dry, straighten my hair, get dressed.......and then its out the door to work!

WIP Wednesday 4

No, I still have not finished the baby blanket!  Its kind of been put on the side burner until we find out if it will be a boy or a girl.  I have some ideas floating around in my head and need to wait to make my color choices.

So this week, I started a new project and it is already half way done!  This is for my little chicklets room, if you can not tell by the colors.

It is a super easy pattern worked in rounds.  I got it at Micheal's a few years ago.  It was one of those paper flyer patterns that they had hanging by the yarns.  I tried to search there website for it but did not see it on there.  I will try and work on getting it scanned in to share with everyone when I post this for FO Friday.

Anyways, what it is, is  a pillow!  What you see here will be the front. The pink is Caron Simply soft, and the black is Red Heart Shimmer.  Both yarns have shine to them so it made it hard to get a decent picture.   The black is actually a raised surface off of the pink.

My little chicklet is already in love with this!  We will be adding to her room décor along with some other things once finished.

FO Friday 1

Wooo........I made it!  I finally get to join in at Tamis Amis for FO Fridays!

All five stockings are finished!

Now the giant one of course is for my husband!  He wanted something that was big and I didn't have enough of the darker red so I had to go with a cherry red.  Doesn't really match the rest, but hey....theres always next year right!

Just need to add a few finishing touches to personal them and they will be ready for xmas!!

More Stockings in the Works

More stockings in the works!
Yes, this week has been dedicated to getting all new stockings made for Christmas this year.  These work up quickly so, I figured I could get these done and out of the way in a breeze!

I looked online for a "stocking" pattern but didn't really find what I was visualizing in my head. So I went with a pattern for socks!  I did change things up a bit from the original pattern but it was a good start.  You can find the pattern HERE at Mrs. D Crochets.

Each one of my kids wanted something slightly different in color.  So I chose a few that would fit us!  I couldn't bring myself to stick with the traditional dark greens and reds.

Tommorow for FO Friday I will be posting all five that I plan to have finished!  See ya then!

The Sunday Social Week 1

Sunday Social

I am joining in on The Sunday Social for the first time this week....hosted by Ashley Lately.  Just thought it would be kind of fun to share a little bit of me.  So here are the questions of the week:

1. What are 3 items you can't live without on a daily basis (water, food, shelter, and clothes don't count)?

My laptop, crochet hooks, and Moscato..........because my sanity depends on these!

2. What is your all time favorite book? Why?

I don't read a lot anymore but I do love the Davinci Code

3. What is something you'd like to accomplish before the end of 2013?

The completion of my dining room remodel.
4. If you could go back and relive any year of your life which year would it be?

The year I was 23.  I don't know why, but that has always been my favorite age.

5. What do you wish people knew about you without you having to tell them?

I am pretty open and honest about myself.  I am also easy to read so when it comes to me there usually isn't anything hidden.

Novasure and a little TMI

This post may contain a little (TMI) too much information for some of you, so I just want to let you know that upfront before you read too far in.  My reason for posting about this is to hopefully get some insight on the subject from some of you that may have experienced the same thing.

In case you are not familiar with the product  Novasure, it is a brand name for a device that is used in the procedure known as Endometrial Ablasion.  Ablasion is done as an alternative, to having a hysterectomy.  The device is inserted into the cervix once dialated, and lasers away the lining of the uterus.

I am 32 years old, have had three children and a tubal litigation.  My sister and my mother both suffer from Endometrios.  I have yet to be diagnosed with it but have problems as well.  My periods are to the point of being debilitating!  Upon my most recent visit to the doctor, I was given three options to remedy this.  An IUD, Endometrial Ablation, or a Hysterectomy.

I have known several people that have had many problems with an IUD and I immediately ruled this option out.  The percentage of this helping me, was far lower than what I was looking for as well.  The Hysterectomy, I was not fond of either.  I am too young and the idea of possibly having to be on hormones for 20-25 years was not something that I even remotely wanted to consider.  So, I have been focusing my research on the Endometrial Ablasion.

Novasure is the device for the procedure that my doctors office offers.  I have viewed the website and even checked it out on the FDA site.  I have tried to look up testimonials and such but everything that I am finding is very negative.  This concerned me and almost made me throw this option out as well.  But the I got to thinking..........when someone has a bad experience, they are more likely to blast their story on the internet than someone who has had a good experience.  Im sure positive outcomes.....those people have moved on with their lives and don't think twice about it now.  So I decided not to let this sway my decision.

I am hoping to find some people who have had positive experiences with this procedure.  Get some real insight on what this is all about.  Have you or anyone you know ever had this done?  Any advice to share???

30-Day Challenge: August

July was a super busy month for me and I seemed to have gotten behind on everything!  I feel like a total slacker!  For the past two months I have posted a calendar containing a full months work out routine.  This month I have decided to just repeat Julys Calendar routine.  I feel like I have had some success with it, and I actually enjoy the routine.

If you go up  there is a tab for "Get fit Journal"  here is where I have posted my before and after pictures from doing these challenges.  I have only been following along with calendars, no dieting, or extra workouts.  I have not had so much luck with losing pounds, but I am def. seeing some results.  Muscle weighs more than fat, so I feel like I have been losing fat pounds and gaining muscle.

Ok, so if you would like to join in with me.....you can find the repeat July Calendar HERE!  If you decide to join in with me, let me know.  Would love to show my support for you!

Goodluck everyone!
