Tackling the Craft Closet

If you are lucky enough to have a room then I am in total envy of you!  My craft supply is limited to one hallway closet.....and the problem with that....is I can only buy what that closet will hold!  Oh, the things I am missing out on.

I have managed to cram so much stuff in this closet though, that I no longer can find anything! I even had to store a couple totes of stuff in the garage.   So yesterday....we emptied the closet and brought in the totes!

We drug everything out to the middle of the living room floor.  I couldn't believe that I had so much stuff!  And some of this, I haven't seen in forever!!

I even found a slew of unfinished projects.....and many things that I intended to make.  Once something got put in the closet......it was never seen again!

I sorted for three hours!  Then was able to group everything together with like items.  I even sadly got rid of some things.  I dreaded putting everything back, so afraid that once it went back in, it would again...........never come out!

Now that everything is organized and in its place I can to the closet and find anything!  If I could only find the time now to finish my projects and get my new ones started!

Week 12: The Bathroom

Okay, so I jumped ahead 6 weeks!  Lol!

I have been so busy that I just have not been able to keep up with all the weekly challenges going on at A Bowl Full of Lemons, that and some of the rooms on the list I do not have in my home.  They are just starting Week 6 which is the Master Bedroom, and I may try to work on that this week.  This past week I was able to work on the bathroom which isn't until Week 12 but it was in dire need so I skipped ahead!

We have two medicine type cabinets in our bathroom and everything small usually gets shoved up in these in no particular order.  I started by removing everything, from every cabinet and grouping the stuff in piles of like items.  This made it a lot easier to find homes for the items.

The problem when cleaning out this cabinet was that I found that I had several small items that I didn't want to put back!  Each shelf was now organized by groups and I couldn't mess that up with unlike items.  So I did have to search around for some new spots.

This one was a little easier,  it was already grouped together pretty well, so just by removing a few items it was done.  Now for the closet............and where I hid everything else, lol!

Bins, bins and more bins...........from the Dollar Tree of course!  It is my total go to place for cheap storage.  Once again, everything is now grouped with like items and is now so much easier to find everything.  The two red bags are our first aid kits (I got the bags free when purchasing other items).  One hold all the ointments and liquid type products and the other all bandages and such that you would not want wet.

I am feeling pretty satisfied!  Its amazing how much easier your life can be by just adding a couple bins!  I cant believe that it took me this long to finally get a grip on my life..........and all I had to do was a little organizing!  Bathroom routines will no longer be the same........and that is a good thing!

An Extra Hour Please

Do you ever wish that there was more than 24 hours in a day, or more than 7 days in a week?  I know I surely do!  I work a 40 hr Monday-Friday 9-5 job and it really takes a toll on my home life.  My day starts at 5:30am and I get home from work at 5:45pm.  By time I get dinner fixed and dishes done its almost time for bed......my whole day is gone in the blink of an eye!  I know you shouldn't wish your life away, but I cant help but to hurry through the week to get to the weekends!  Seriously. this year is flying by and I feel like I have missed the whole thing.

My weekends are filled with playing catch up on everything! Laundry, housework, shopping and preparing for the week to come.  I feel like I never truly get a day of rest..........is anyone feeling me here?

I started doing two challenges this month.  A 30-Day Challege for weightloss and a home organization challenge hosted by A Bowl Full of Lemons.  I have been keeping up really well with the exercising.  I did miss two days due to being out of town and having company over, but I have stuck with it and will be posting my results come the end of the month.  You can check at all my befores HERE.  The home organization, I am sad to say has not gone so smoothly.  The first week was the KITCHEN and I did really good with that one.  The second week was the garage, and I admit, I totally skipped this one!  Our garage is so full that the thought of touching it was so overwhelming, and I had no clue where to start.......or the money to put out for the bins and such that I was gonna need.  We were also out of town for a wedding so my town was very limited.  This week was the pantry.  We don't have a pantry, so I skipped this week also.  I do, however, have a shelving unit in the garage that I store extras on, so I may work on that this weekend.

My husband calls me a busy body, because I am always running around doing something!  Its not that I have to always be doing something, its just that there is always something that needs done!  He just doesn't understand what it really takes to make this life work.  We are on a strict budget so Im always couponing, and scouring the web for deals.......anything that will save us money...because honestly we don't have it to waste!  There is always laundry that needs done, or a floor to be swept.  These things just don't magically happen on there own.  He just seems to think I have OCD, lol.  No dear.......I am normal, I promise!

Anyone have suggestions on how to create that extra hour in a day?  I would love to hear them?  I just feel like Im rushing through life and wasting away doing chores!  How do you work a full time job and still maintain a clean home?  How do you ever find the time to kick back and relax? A little help please?

One of my favorite quotes comes from the movie Yours Mine and Ours........A house is made for expression not impression.  And this is said because the house is a mess in the movie!  I like the idea of it and I try to live that carefree way, but I just cant!  I want a clean house and still feel like Im not doing it to impress anyone.  Struggling here!

Week 1: Kitchen = Organized!

I must say I am so glad that I have taken on the challenge!  My kitchen is looking great and has become a lot more functionable.  The challenge is hosted by A Bowl Full of Lemons, and you have got to check it out!

My kitchen cabinets were the first thing I worked on.  I don't have a lot of them so it wasn't too difficult to complete.  Here are the first set of before and after:

I bought all the bins at the Dollar Tree for one buck a piece.  Everything has been separated in to categories.  All I need now is labels!

More bins!  I ran out and haven't had a chance to get back to the store.  The cereal all came out of the boxes and was separated into zip lock bags.  Takes up less space, makes it portion ready, and stays fresh longer!  Double whammy!

Our previous flatware holder was not deep enough to hold everything.  By switching to these smaller ones (from the dollar tree), I was able to get them all in and no more sliding out of place.

If you notice, there is a lot of things no longer in this drawer!  I have found them a new temporary home......on the counter top!

There is still some more work to be done.  One week while working a full time job and taking care of the family is a short time to overhall my kitchen but I still feel successful with what I was able to complete.  Plus, Im saving some pictures for my full room reveal!   Coming soon!!

There it is folks!  I printed out the schedule and hung it right with my 30-Day Challenge (Dropping Pounds).  Its all like BAM!! right in your face as soon as you walk in my kitchen!  Figured that was the best place to hang them since week one was The Kitchen, and it would keep me out of the fridge!

Hope you all when join in too and follow me along as I get my home organized!!
