WIP Wednesday 7
Just a quick post to show you the progress that I have made on one of my previous WIP's. The Tree of Life baby blanket that I am making for my niece!
The blanket is basically down now. Im waiting to find out what she is having to add either some pink or blue on, but for the most part its done. I also would like to add some leaves. That is going to require a trip to the craft store.......maybe I will do that this weekend!
This is one project that I cant wait to give away!!

WIP Wednesday 5
Im beginning to realize that I have a big problem when it comes to finishing my projects. Once again, this week instead of finishing previous things, I have started another new one!
This whole year has been one crazy hot mess with the move and renovation that I have seemed to have missed out on a lot of things. Like for instance, one of my best friends baby shower.....I know...what a crumby friend I am right? This weeks project should have been started months ago, and since I missed the shower, it just completely slipped passed me. So every extra minute I have had, I have been working on this:
Yes, another baby blanket! Only thing is this one has to be finished before the end of the month!!
She is due August 30th!
The colors are a perfect match to the crib set that she has already purchased. Chevron seems to be very popular right so I chose to go with that pattern (and its simple so it works up quick).
Once the crochet work is all finished, I want to add a fabric J on the bottom corner. This I have never done before! I have seen pictures of items that are sewn and crocheted, and tried looking into some tutorials, but Im still a little uneasy about it.
I don't want to mess up the crochet because it is going so well. I guess Im going to have to work up a swatch and try it out. Fingers crossed that I can do this!!!!

WIP Wednesday 2
My second week joining in WIP Wednesday and I am excited! Last week I got to see many peoples projects that they had going on ........all of which were amazing! I started following some new favorite pages and even received some return follows. I love to do all crafts.....but crocheting I must say is my favorite and this linkup has let me connect with so many people that share the same passion for the needle arts.
Last week I shared the baby blanket that I started for my niece who recently found out that she is expecting her first child. You can see the beginnings of the blanket HERE. There is also a link to the free pattern in the first post if you like what you see here and wanna try it yourself.

This week, I managed to get the whole tree pattern completed. It is looking great! The original pattern is called the Tree of Life but I am making a whole different play on it. I see two trees combining as one.....and since this is for a baby......I am considering this two "family trees" combing together (the baby).
This is my heirloom gift to the new to be mother. I plan on embroidering some leaves on the trees and writing a sweet poem to put in a card to go along with the blanket explaining the idea behind it.
I am definitely not a writer, so I am going to need some luck writing this poem, lol.

All Things Baby Linky Party 3
Whoooaa........things were so crazy this weekend that I did not have time to post my feature from the All Things Baby Linky Party 2 yesterday!
We had our American Girl Crafts House Party, and our family grill out.......things went amazingly great and I had such a wonderful time!! I will share more on all this later this week....but for now lets get on to my feature from last weeks All Things Baby Linky Party....
Are these not the most adorable things you have ever seen!!!!! Ok, quit google eying over thos cute little tooties and check out the hand crafted Gladiator Sandals. These were linked up by Whistle and Ivy and I just adore these! You can check out her whole post HERE where you can even download the pattern. She also sells on Etsy, so if your not needle savvy then maybe you can sweet talk her into making some for you!
Ok, we are now on week 3 of the linky party!! I have seen some great things so far, and excited that you are all so willing to share. The only rule that I have is that you link up to something that petains to infants and toddlers.........and if you want to grab a button that would be great too!
Lets party!!

WIP Wednesday 1
Today I am joining in on the fun of posting my first WIP Wednesday hosted by Tami's Amis and Other Creations. Every Wednesday you can linkup your work in progress and show off to the world what you have in the works!
I found out a couple weeks ago that I am going to be a Great Aunt! This was very exciting news! I love babies and love making things for babies even more! The problem with making things for a new baby is...........you have a deadline. So, I knew I had to get started right away if I was going to have things finished before the big arrival.
I racked my brain trying to figure out what I was going to make. I had a couple ideas in mind but wanted something special, something that I hadn't done before. Trying to think outside the box was begining to stress me out, lol. So I started hosting a weekly All Things Baby linky party looking to all of you for a little help! There is three days left so be sure to stop over HERE and linkup any post, idea, advice that you have that pertains to babies! I can use all the help I can get.
In the meantime, while I waited to see what all of you had in store......I started searching for a pattern. I always make a blanket in some form, whether it be knitting, crocheting or quilting. My grandmother made everyone of my children one and I like to keep with the tradition.
While searching online I came across (for the millionth time) the above pattern from Lion Brand Yarn. It is called Tree of Life Afghan and is a free pattern on their website that you can find HERE. I actually printed the pattern out back in 2011 but was too intimidated to ever try and make it.
Until now!!!!! Ta Da.......my WIP!!!
Now, I didn't follow the pattern quite as layed out. The full pattern was going to be way to big for a new born baby, so I decided to change things up a bit. I skipped through the pattern and just started to work on the block that has the trees in it.
I have a whole story line planned out for this new little creation. It is the cutest thing ever. I don't want to give away my idea just yet though. You will have to check back later......this is for sure going to be in the family heirloom box!

My Little Pony Galore!
When I was little, I absolutely loved My Little Pony! I had the pony dolls, castle and just about anything that you could imagine that they were printed on! I was a total 80's child, and when I had my little girl, the ponys were making their way back into mainstream once again. I can not tell you how excited I was about this.
When my daughters was transitioning over from her crib to toddler bed, I knew that I had to redo her room with........none other than the My Little Pony theme from my child hood. I did some looking around and couldn't find bedding and such items that I was going to need to redo her room. They had just started to release the toys on the shelves and suppose they weren't ready for my takeover yet!
This ladies and gentlemen.......is when I bought my first sewing machine!! My great grandmother was a master quilter, and watching her all those years....I knew I could do! So, I then started searching for fabric. This they had! I found the fabric on ebay. There was a listing for a bundle of 12 yards, two different prints and I knew I had to have it. By the way, this is a throwback post.....this all took place about 8 years ago...but I wanted to share.
My sewing machine didn't stop running for days. I made her a quilt and several pillows. Once I got going I couldn't stop..........I had sooooooo much of this fabric. I recovered the glider in her room and made her a valance for her window.
This is a pretty bad picture, I had to pull this out of the photo album, I was digitalized yet!
A few years later, when she started growing a mind of her own, she decided that she no longer wanted the ponys.......I was very sad to see them go. The problem here, well.......I still had yards upon yards of this fabric left! I was hoping to use it again to make her a quilt when she switched bed sizes again but that was now not going to happen.
I did manage to get lucky once. About four years ago, I good friend of mine was pregnant with a girl! Oh, here was my chance to finally get to use up some more of this fabric.
For her babyshower, I made her a quilt with the ponys! She loved it! And her little girl still uses it to this day.
Ok, some more bad pictures.......I know......but these are throwbacks!
The problem I am now having, and the reason this post is being thrown out there, is that while cleaning out my stash.......I realized that I still have several yards of this fabric! I have ran out of room to store anything new that I buy so I am trying to use up some of my supply. This fabric must go! My daughter wants nothing to do with it and no one I know is having little girls anytime soon.
So what do I do with it? What would you do with it? I would really like to make something out of it. I thought about making a couple baby quilts and just storing them a way for quick gifts. That doesn't get rid of my problem though. I need to make space for new stuff and this idea would just be moving it from one spot to another, lol. I guess if all else fails there is always ebay :(

Make a House a Home.....from Scratch! 6
I have been back at it!
We finished up all the painting in my daughters room! It is now pretty and pink and fit for a princess! If you missed the first post of her room, you can find it HERE. I must say we have came along way and there is now no more signs of SpongeBob!
I have now been trying to come up with decorating ideas to suite her color scheme of Pink, Black and White! She loves the Zebra print that seems to be everywhere these days. I find it rather played out so I have been putting off buying it, but I know its coming! So, until then were just doing baby steps and picking up little things here and there.
The first thing we bought was new bedding. I had to pack up the quilt I made for her previously, it was getting a bit ragged and the colors were now going to clash. As a substitute (until I have time to make her new one) we bought a comforter set at the Dollar Store......yes, I said it, the Dollar Store! It was on sale for $15.00 and had her colors!
The beginning of decorating had begun! The next thing was to girly it up a bit, and when your throwing black in any little girls room....you have to add the girliness!

A screwdriver and a can of spray paint was all we needed to get rid of that rainbow ceiling fan. Once we added this back to the room, all signs of the previous colors were gone!
She has been begging for a canopy bed, why, because there is nothing that screams princess more than a canopy! Geez mom....don't you know that?? Sorry babe, but your room is just not big enough for one (really I just cant afford it) but I couldn't tell her that. She settled for a home made canopy that was just the right size for her room! And I must say, it turned out beautifully!
If you like the canopy, you can find the tutorial to make your own at craftaholicsanonymous. It was super easy! And it only cost me $10.00!
The only thing in the picture that I didn't mention was the valance. That is because it was from her previous room and will be getting replaced. It was one of my first sewing projects and as you can tell it is a little lop sided, lol.

Make a House a Home....from Scratch! 3
The Spongebob Room!
Now, I enjoy Spongebob just as much as the next person, but when it came time to move my little girl in this room, she was not too excited!
I guess the yellow and blue walls just didn't scream GIRL to her! And I happily agreed that it needed to go!
Here is the other half of the room with the blue walls! And no closet door!
So first things first......paint! It is the cheapest way I know to transform a room quick when you are on a budget that consists of the change in your pocket!
And there is nothing more girly than Fairytale Pink! I believe it was originally from Valspar but we had it color matched into an Olympic because it was much cheaper.
Her room is on its way!
